5 Tips for Packing Your Luggage

You’ve picked your destination, planned your vacation, bought your plane tickets, and now you’re in your room because the time has come. To pack your bags. Packing your luggage comes with a few challenges. What to pack. How much to pack. If I sit on my luggage, will the zipper finally close? But with every challenge, there is a simple solution. So I’ve decided to share a few tips on how you can better pack your luggage for your trip. Here are my top five pieces of advice for packing!

1. Make a packing list.

I have found this to be one of the best ways to get organized when I’m torn over what to pack. Jotting down a list not only makes it so you’re less likely to forget something, but it also helps to not overpack because you’re giving yourself a visual on what’s important to fit into your luggage.

2. Roll your clothes.

Rolling your clothes is an absolute game changer! This trick compacts each piece of clothing, which maximizes the amount of space you have in your luggage. So don’t be shy. You can go ahead and pack that extra pair of shoes you were hoping to fit in!

3. Put liquids in a bag.

Air pressure changes are inevitable when you’re traveling in the air, which means your shampoo bottle can’t be trusted. Putting all your liquids in sealable bags guarantees that you won’t be unpacking a goopy mess of clothes at the hotel.

4. Wear your bulkiest items on the plane.

Sometimes I just can’t part with my Dr. Martens. If you’re going to pack a chunky shoe or heavy coat, don’t. Just wear it on the plane! Wearing your bulkiest items while traveling ensures that you have enough space in your suitcase for your other hot commodities.

5. Never check essentials.

Though it doesn’t happen often, airports aren’t perfect, and sometimes luggage gets lost. When you’re packing for a trip, make sure to put your essentials (wallets, cell phones, passports, Dr. Martens…) in your carry on. That way, you’re not in a pinch if it takes a couple days for your luggage to arrive.

Bonus! Start with luggage that suites you.

Here’s a bonus tip for my favorite readers! While saving space is a great way to help your packing process, it also helps to have a great bag to begin with. BRIC’S Capri collection is ultra-lightweight and constructed using durable, flexible, and ultralight polycarbonate. It is also offered in both matte and reflective shine finishes with full-grain Tuscan leather trim. But the best part is the variety of sizes of luggage pieces this collection provides. So go ahead and pick a size that fits your packing and traveling needs!
